4 Excellent Biking Trails Around the U.S.

Ready to take off on a great biking trail? The U.S. has plenty from which to choose. It’s just a matter of figuring out what’s readily accessible to you. If you recently got an electric bike, you’re probably ready to put it to good use. Many biking trails are open to both regular bikes and e-bikes, but double check your state or local laws to confirm.

Here’s the scoop on four excellent biking trails around the U.S.

Great Allegheny Passage, from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. Can you imagine traveling from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Washington, D.C., without sitting in a ton of traffic? It sounds too good to be true, but it’s possible. The Allegheny Passage in the Pittsburgh area traverses for 150 miles and then connects with the 184.5-mile C & O Canal Towpath in rural Cumberland, Maryland. It then continues to Washington, D.C.

Paul Bunyan State Trail, from Brainerd to Bemidji, Minnesota. Looking to enjoy some Minnesota culture and restaurants? The 115-mile Paul Bunyan Trail offers up great scenery, 21 lakes, and plenty of places to stop along the way for your breaks.

Legacy Trail, from Sarasota to Venice, Florida. Although relatively short, the Legacy Trail is said to be one of the most pleasant biking trails in Florida. It starts in beautiful Sarasota and continues to Venice, Florida (also known as the Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World). Joggers, skaters, and bikers convene on the 11-mile Legacy Trail, which then continues to the Venetian Waterway Park Trail for another 10 miles. One tip: The trail doesn’t have a lot of shade, so try to enjoy it in the relatively cooler months, recommends Florida for Boomers.

Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks and Currituck, North Carolina. On quiet Hatteras Island, take in some stunning views along N.C. Highway 12 and you’ll enjoy a 25-mile bike route. Your view will include the ocean and Pamlico sound. As a bonus, you can stop at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as part of your trip, according to Visit North Carolina.
